*TWIN -BIRTHS - THE ROLE OF YAMS* Twin birth can either be identical or fraternal/non-identical. Identical twins result when an egg after been fertilized and then implanted as zygote splits into two embryo. On the other hand, nonidentical twins result from the fertilization of two separate eggs and their implantation on two different sites in the uterus. The south west of Nigeria is notable for having a large amount of twin births. A small town named igbo-ora holds the record for most amounts of twin-births. To further attest to this claim, the land's entry post has as an acronym *"The nation's home of twins".* While it remains a wonder as to the alarming amount of twins in this yoruba small town; various speculations have been made. One of worthy note is that of yam consumption. Yes, yam consumption. Yam is a common food in Nigeria but mostly indigenous to the yoruba people. Why this might sound ridiculous, it is almost impossible to rule out the prospects considering the high amount of twin births in this small town. It is speculated that yam especially the peelings contain a substance known as phytoestrogen which increases the follicle stimulating hormone and induces higher rate of ovulation. Although there are no specifications as to the amount of yams to take in it however remains a speculation. No medical research or proof has been given to back it up. Well, come to think of it, instead of trying other risky means such as progesterone creams and drug prescriptions to have twins; wouldn't be easier to simply eat yam. And, what if you're not a lover of twins, then you might have to reconsider the amount of yams you take in. One sure thing I can say is if you're so desperate for twins, one fact we can't take away is that been in igbo-ora most likely increases your chances. Why not relocate and thank me later!
